The 2015 Toyota Land Cruiser has evolved from a basic 4WD utility vehicle into an upscale, eight-passenger SUV sold in 188 countries. Yet, because it remains true to its 60-year heritage of uncompromising go-anywhere capability, this iconic vehicle retains a loyal following.

2015 Land Cruiser vs. 2015 Cadillac Escalade Premium 4x4

In its fourth-generation, the Cadillac Escalade received a complete facelift for 2015 with new exterior styling and upgraded cabin features. PERFORMANCE: Land Cruiser is better suited to handle off-road terrain with its full-time 4WD, 30-degree approach angle and higher ground clearance of 8.9-in., whereas Escalade has a four-wheel system with only a 15.7-degree approach angle and a ground clearance of 7.9-in. Plus, Land Cruiser can tow up to 8200 lbs. compared to Escalade 4WD's 8100 lbs. of maximum towing.

TECHNOLOGY: Land Cruiser features an 8.0-in. high-resolution touch-screen with split-screen display with integrated apps including Bing, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable and Pandora. While Escalade features an 8-in. touch-screen it doesn't have split-screen display, and the only apps available are Pandora and NavTraffic.

CONVENIENCE: Land Cruiser is equipped with a multi-terrain monitor with selectable front, rear and side views, helping provide an extra level of confidence when off-roading with four vehicle-mounted cameras providing different views when in 4-hi and 4-low, a convenience feature unavailable on Escalade.

COMFORT: While Land Cruiser and Escalade Premium are comparable in comfort, Land Cruiser features four-zone automatic climate control with individual temperature settings for driver, front passenger and left and right rear-seat passengers, while Escalade only has a tri-zone climate control.

SAFETY: Land Cruiser comes with 10 standard airbags, including driver and front passenger knee airbagsKnee airbags are unavailable on Escalade.

VALUE: According to IntelliChoice.com, the 2014 Land Cruiser received an "Excellent" value rating compared to Escalade's "Above Average" rating. Plus, Land Cruiser has a lower 5-year cost of ownership according to IntelliChoice.com's estimates.

2015 Land Cruiser vs. 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL450

The Mercedes GL-Class luxury SUV lineup is well-equipped and offers a biturbo V6, a biturbo V8 or 3.0L V6 turbodiesel. A standard 7-speed automatic transmission and AIRMATIC suspension help provide a smooth, balanced ride, while a variety of safety features are available. The 2015 Land Cruiser more than holds its own, providing added luxury with enhanced technology for an outstanding combination of upscale practicality and off-road capability.

PERFORMANCE: Land Cruiser has more horsepower (381 vs. 362) and torque (401 lb.-ft. vs. 369 lb.-ft.) than GL450. Also, Land Cruiser's full-time four-wheel drive system provides more rugged off-road capability compared to GL's all-wheel drive system.

TECHNOLOGY: Land Cruiser features a standard 8.0-in. high-resolution touch-screen with integrated apps including Bing, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable® and Pandora®2; XM Data Services including NavTraffic, NavWeather, Fuel, and Sports and Stocks. GL has a standard 7-in. color display and apps cost extra. Plus, Land Cruiser has standard rear seat entertainment, a feature only offered as an available option on GL450.

CONVENIENCE: Land Cruiser is equipped with a multi-terrain monitor which includes four vehicle-mounted cameras providing different views when in 4-hi and 4-low. Selectable front, rear and side views help provide an extra level of confidence when off-roading, but you won't find it on any GL grade. GL has an available Surround View camera with the Parking Assist Package, but it is not selectable and is intended for parking only. Plus, where Land Cruiser comes standard with Smart Key and push button start, this feature costs extra on GL450.

COMFORT: Land Cruiser features four-zone automatic climate control with individual temperature settings for driver, front passenger and rear-seat passengers and second- and third-row vents, while GL450 has only has standard dual-zone climate control and available three-zone climate control. Plus, Land Cruiser has standard heated and ventilated front seats and rear heated seats. GL450 has heated front seats but no standard heated second row.

SAFETY: While GL offers a variety of available safety features as extra-cost options, Land Cruiser comes with standard airbags, including driver and front passenger knee airbags. GL has seven and no front passenger's knee airbag. Land Cruiser also features standard projector-beam HID headlights providing better visibility than GL's standard halogen headlights.

VALUE: Like all Toyota's, Land Cruiser comes with standard ToyotaCare, a no-cost scheduled maintenance plan for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and two-year or unlimited mile roadside assistance. While GL450 has longer roadside assistance, it doesn't offer complimentary maintenance. And, according to IntelliChoice.com Land Cruiser not only has a lower estimated 5-year cost of ownership ($70,627 vs. $79,439)but it also received an "Excellent" value rating. GL450 received a "Poor" value rating. 

2015 Land Cruiser vs. 2015 Infiniti QX80 AWD

Infiniti QX80 is a lavish luxury SUV with a powerful V8 engine and impressive towing capacity, a long list of standard interior amenities and a wide array of available technology. Land Cruiser, however, takes luxury to the next level with a variety of standard upscale features combined with its iconic styling, legendary off-road capability and exceptional value.

TECHNOLOGY: Land Cruiser features an 8.0-in. high-resolution touch-screen with split-screen display, HD Radio and integrated apps including Bing, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable and Pandora. WhileQX80 features an 8-in. touch-screen, it doesn't have split-screen display, integrated apps or HD Radio, and the only data services available are SiriusXM NavWeather and NavTraffic.

PERFORMANCE: Land Cruiser has a smaller turning circle (38.7 ft. vs. 41.6 ft.) and a lighter curb weight (5765 lb. vs. 5878 lb.) for a more nimble and agile ride when matched against QX80 AWD.

CONVENIENCE: Land Cruiser is equipped with a multi-terrain monitor with selectable front, rear and side views. It helps provide an extra level of confidence when off-roading with four vehicle-mounted cameras providing different views when in 4-hi and 4-low. Though QX80 features an Around View monitor, this feature is intended for checking the surrounding area when parking and in similar tight-quarter maneuvers.
